JVIC And CoxHealth Team Up To Combat PPE Shortage

Personal protective equipment is in high demand during these times. To combat the shortage of PPE, Missouri State University’s Jordan Valley Innovation Center and partner CoxHealth have developed a prototype face shield.

This face shield, designed to be worn with a face mask underneath, will protect health care worker’s eyes, nose and mouth from harmful diseases. Using 3D printers and laser cutting machines, thousands of shields can be made very quickly. Each piece can be removed and replaced separately, making them both efficient to supply and easy to clean.

The shields were created using supplies most hospitals already have combined with materials from local university labs. The design for the face mask will be shared with health care systems globally.

Scott Rogers, system director of performance integration and innovation at CoxHealth says, “This is an exciting development that we hope will make a real difference for our staff and other health systems across the country and around the world.”
